Staff Health Screening & Wellness Standards

პერსონალის ჯანმრთელობის სკრინინგი და კეთილდღეობის სტანდარტები [STAFF-01]

Systematic staff health screening is a foundational requirement of safe healthcare delivery, yet across Georgia and the broader South Caucasus region, many ambulatory surgical facilities and hospital settings lack the structured, documentation-ready programmes that accreditation bodies require. Gaps in occupational health surveillance — including incomplete immunisation records, absent tuberculosis screening protocols, and undocumented fitness-for-duty assessments — expose institutions to regulatory findings and, more critically, to preventable transmission of infectious disease between clinical personnel and patients. The World Health Organization’s Global Plan of Action on Workers’ Health (2008–2017) and the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Standards for Hospitals both mandate documented, risk-stratified staff health programmes as a non-negotiable component of patient safety infrastructure. This course addresses that compliance deficit with precision, providing quality and occupational health teams with the specific knowledge and operational tools needed to build fully auditable programmes.

The course content is grounded in JCI Staff Qualifications and Education (SQE) standards, relevant ISO 45001:2018 occupational health and safety management requirements, and WHO guidance on healthcare worker health protection, including recommendations on bloodborne pathogen exposure, respiratory protection, and vaccine-preventable disease control. Instruction follows a case-based, competency-mapped methodology in which participants analyse real accreditation deficiency patterns drawn from South Caucasus facility surveys, apply structured decision frameworks, and construct documentation templates directly transferable to their institutional context. Formative assessments embedded throughout each module ensure that learning is applied, not merely encountered.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between mandatory and recommended elements of a staff health screening programme as defined by JCI SQE standards and Georgian national occupational health legislation, and articulate the regulatory consequence of each gap.
  • Design a risk-stratified pre-employment and periodic health assessment protocol that is proportionate to occupational exposure category, facility type, and local disease epidemiology, including tuberculosis prevalence relevant to the Georgian context.
  • Implement a compliant immunisation and serological surveillance policy for healthcare workers, specifying required vaccines, documentation standards, and management pathways for non-immune or declining staff.
  • Construct audit-ready documentation templates — including screening logs, clearance records, and exposure-incident reports — that satisfy the evidentiary expectations of ASF accreditation surveyors.
  • Evaluate an existing institutional staff wellness programme against ISO 45001:2018 and JCI benchmarks, identifying non-conformities and prioritising corrective actions using a structured gap-analysis tool.
  • Apply evidence-based principles of occupational exposure management — including post-exposure prophylaxis protocols for bloodborne pathogens — to develop facility-specific response procedures that are consistent with WHO and national guidelines.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for quality managers, infection prevention and control coordinators, occupational health officers, and hospital accreditation leads working in ambulatory surgical facilities, polyclinics, and multi-specialty hospitals across Georgia and the South Caucasus. It is equally relevant to nursing directors and clinical department heads who carry institutional responsibility for staff health documentation and policy compliance. Professionals at mid-career level who are preparing their facility for an initial JCI or ASF accreditation survey, or who are responding to findings from a recent survey cycle, will derive the most immediate practical benefit.

Course Structure

This self-paced online course is delivered through GMJ Academy’s interactive learning environment and requires approximately five to six hours of total study time, organised across four thematic modules with embedded knowledge checks and a summative scenario-based assessment. Participants who achieve a passing score of 80% or above are eligible to receive a GMJ Academy Certificate of Completion, carrying continuing professional development (CPD) credit recognised for Georgian medical relicensure purposes.
